My anticipation for newbie Lana Del
Rey’s “Born To Die” album can now be filed under “life support needed” after listening to
her newly leaked track, ‘National Anthem’.
One should not confuse this song as
a patriotic anthem, as the song is more non sequitur than patriotic. The song is quite different from the haunting sound we loved on 'Born To Die' or 'Video Games', replaced with a more pop-rock sound to probably kill off remarks from critics, who call her a one trick pony.
Del Rey reapplies her faux rap-singing that was found on 'Blue Jeans', using a sultry tone to charm her lover. This tactic would
seem pretentious had it been another star, but Lana has already convicted us and
made us prisoners of her beauty and music (thanks to Daddy).
I don’t know if it’s the
botox-induced lips or her 60’s pornstar look that has made me fall
head-over-heels for Lana, but I’m praying that Lana Del Slay explodes into an
worldwide superstar once she graces Saturday Night Live.
“Born To Die” will be released
January 30, 2012 in the US
and January 29, 2012 in the UK
